NOTE: The examination and selection
process for Enforcement Pilots is a 3 to 4 month process which includes
an aircraft check ride.
The work shift and days off for this position vary. This positon reports
to CAPT Michael Trenholm, Chief Pilot.
Positions exist to provide fixed-wing airborne law enforcement for
resource protection within the Division of Enforcement, and to provide
aviation support to other disciplines within the Department.
Law Enforcement Activity: Perform aerial surveillance and direct
ground-based personnel for prevention, detection, apprehension of
individuals involved in criminal activity. Document evidence through
aerial photos. Provide reports, evidence, and testimony for court
actions. Assist and coordinate search and rescue efforts. Employ
aircraft in response to emergency requests. Collaborate and coordinate
with inter/intra agency groups. Enforce all statute and regulations
protecting natural resources, including investigating complaints,
identifying violations, seizing property and evidence, and arresting
violators.
Pilot Services: Provide pilot services for other disciplines in
monitoring wildlife populations, human use pressures on resources,
wildfire detection and suppression, aerial mapping, pollution detection
and tracing, land and water access points, and fish stocking. Provide
pilot services to transport department personnel and equipment.
Planning and Maintenance: Establish fight planning and aircraft
maintenance to assure constant aircraft flight ready status. Conduct
aircraft inspections to assure maintenance is up-to-date, and that all
needed service and repair is done in accordance with all operating
instructions, requirements, and Department policy and are in compliance
with all applicable Federal Rules and Regulations. Determine special
equipment needs and aircraft set-up for missions. Evaluate weather
conditions and patterns with national reports. Determine and recommend
personal training and continuing education needs relating for aircraft
operation and for compliance with policies and regulations.
Administrative: Efficiently and effectively work with regional and
management staff to maximize utilization of aircraft. Plan flight
schedules around division and departmental goals to maximize aircraft
availability. Maintain a working relationship with other DNR
Divisions/Bureaus/Regions, all law enforcement agecies and other related
agencies.Maintain a home office to provide 24 hour daily service to
inter/intra agency user groups. Maintain membership in professional
aviation, law enforcement, and community organizations.

| Minimum Qualifications: |
|
Must be a citizen of the United States.
Unrestricted commercial pilots license with instrument rating, a current
first or second class FAA medical certificate, a minimum flight time of
500 hours Pilot in Command with 300 hours of conventional gear aircraft
and 50 hours ski and/or float and/or off airport operations and
landings. Two years experience as a licensed peace officer.
Skill in performing peace officer duties.
Reading comprehension skill.
Oral and written communications skills.
Ability to perform the job in adverse weather and other environmental
conditions.
Ability to observe and record information; read, analyze, interpret and
communicate information; detect and analyze information based on sight,
smell and/or taste, etc.
A Law Enforcement Pilot shall not pose a direct threat to the health or
safety of other individuals in the performance of the assigned job
duties and responsibilities.
No felony conviction in Minnesota or a crime in any other state or
federal jurisdiction which would have been a felony if committed in
Minnesota.
No other criminal convictions involving serious natural resource
violations, crimes involving moral turpitude or two or more
alcohol-related driving violations for the past ten years. No DWI,
reckless or careless driving, or other serious driving violations within
the last five years.
Possess a valid MN Peace Officer's License; OR be eligible to be
licensed by the MN Peace Officers Standards and Training Board (P.O.S.T.);
or clomlete basic police training and be certified as a fulllll-time
peace officer in a state or federal law enforcement agency with which
Minnesota has reciprocity and pass the P.O.S.T Board reciprocity exam.
Requires occasionally lifting articles such as 50-pound bags of feed
maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy
tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a
significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the
time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross
vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's
license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailers as long as the a gross
combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
A Peace Officer License is required.
A Pilot License is required.

The selection process is an experience and
training rating assessing your qualifications. Applicants will be
required to pass a flight test determining skills and abilities in
aircraft operation, navigation, and safety. In addition, applicants must
also pass a written exam covering reading comprehension, english usage,
and public relations. A wildilfe identification and habitat written exam
will also be administered, and these results will be considered in the
overall ranking of individual candidates. Candidates must pass the
general written exam to be admitted to other portions of the selection
process, which includes an interview and completion of a comprehensive
background investigation. Conditional job offers will be based on
passing a medical evaluation, functional capacity exam, and a
psychological evaluation.
CANDIDATES MUST PROVIDE PROOF OF MEETING THE PEACE OFFICER LICENSE
REQUIREMENTS IN ORDER TO BE ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE WRITTEN EXAM.
Applicants must meet one of the following: 1)Possess a valid Minnesota
